Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach Campus, invites highly qualified candidates to apply for the 12-month endowed position (open rank) as Coordinator of the Aerospace Physiology Program, funded through the Wessel Endowment in Aerospace Physiology. Housed in the Department of Human Factors and Behavioral Neurobiology, the Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Physiology is the only undergraduate degree of its kind in the nation, blending aerospace with life science while leveraging Embry-Riddle’s many strengths. The successful candidate will help grow the program and facilitate research connections with NASA and its supporting private sector, the DoD, and institutions that offer clinical opportunities in flight and space.


The Coordinator will be expected to teach, develop a research program that includes undergraduates, and most importantly, act as an advocate for the program. The ideal candidate would have a PhD in the life sciences, industry or government experience, a presence in aerospace life science societies, and a passion to mentor students. The incumbent will support a life science curriculum that includes general biology, anatomy & physiology, cellular biology, and other related courses. As the Department also offers MS and PhD degrees, the incumbent will also have the opportunity to mentor graduate students.

Current departmental expertise includes radiation biology, space microbiology, genetics, bioinformatics, and human physiology as it relates to space.  Likewise, we have an established core group in human performance as it relates to circadian rhythmicity, behavioral pharmacology, and vestibular physiology.
