PURPOSE

The BioInnovation and Design Lab at Santa Clara University seeks to hire a postdoctoral scholar who will lead the identification and development of in-depth, real-world data analytics use cases for bioprocessing and biomanufacturing, and prepare them for presentations, publishing, and active-learning workbooks. The initial appointment will be for one year, with possibility of extension subject to performance and availability of funds.

The BioInnovation and Design Lab is dedicated to bridging the gap between academia and the biomedical device, biopharmaceutical, and healthcare innovation industries. The lab sources and project manages research and talent-development collaborations that offer mutual benefit to the University and its partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

a. Knowledge and Skills

  • Investigate and identify complex multivariate data analysis problems from the bioprocessing and biomanufacturing industry
  • Perform an exhaustive literature review of existing published biopharmaceutical manufacturing data analytics use cases and data sets
  • Complete advanced data analytics case studies and companion data sets for dissemination
  • Translate the cases into active learning workbooks that will accompany advanced training modules

b. Abilities

  • Effective planning, prioritization, and organization of workload and assignments, including handling multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Work independently and exercise independent judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

c. Education:

  • Doctorate degree in chemical engineering, biotechnology, bioprocess engineering, or a related field

d. Years of Experience: PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION

Ensures that student researchers working under his/her supervision maintain a safe working environment and adhere to standard laboratory practices and guidelines.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in multivariate analysis for advanced process analytical technology
  • Experience in producing in-depth, real-world data analytics use cases in bioprocessing
  • Strong interest in industry-focused applied research
  • Experience in supervision and direction of student research (preferred but not required)

b. Abilities

  • Effective planning, prioritization, and organization of workload and assignments, including handling multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Work independently and exercise independent judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
