This position will serve as the program director of the newly created Bachelor of Commercial Aviation degree. This is an eleven (11) month exempt position that will oversee the implementation and assessment of the program. The successful candidate will also teach courses in the program commensurate with their area of expertise. This is a non-tenure track position.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
Teach two courses each long semester in the Bachelor’s of Commercial Aviation degree program. Oversee the recruitment and retention of students into the program. Work closely with the chief pilot in scheduling of flight time for students. Work with the flight school and other faculty in the placement of students following graduation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of requirements for pilot training and issues in aviation. Ability and credentials to teach courses in aviation. Excellent communication skills and experience in recruiting, retaining and graduating students in higher education. Ability to work with the chief pilot and instructors in the flight operations area.
An earned bachelor’s degree in aviation, education or a closely related field, an airline transport pilot certificate and have at least five years experience in the aviation industry or academic aviation programming. Candidates with an earned doctorate in aviation or closely related field and at least a private pilot certificate will also be considered.
Higher education training in educational pedagogy is preferred. Teaching experience at the college level is helpful.
