Job Description:

Industrial Maintenance Technology Faculty are responsible for the planning, preparation and execution of classroom and/or laboratory experiences which result in learning. Faculty develop, evaluate and revise the curriculum incorporating evidence based learning activities directed at meeting established learning outcomes. Faculty monitor and evaluate student performance based on established grading guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.


  1. Contributes to the overall achievement of the college’s mission and goals through effective instruction and classroom management.
  2. Plans and prepares for assigned instructional courses.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of content and pedagogy.
  4. Develops instructional outcomes and appropriate evaluation and assessment methods of learning.
  5. Creates and maintains an environment of rapport and respect.
  6. Clearly establishes expectations for learning and achievement.
  7. Maintains up-to-date accurate records on attendance and student progress.
  8. Engages in academic counseling and advisement.
  9. Meets with current and prospective students for review and provide an accurate interpretation of college placement scores.
  10. Provides guidance to students for academic planning.
  11. Make referrals to college resources available to provide services or assistance to students. 
  12. Engages in the college community for intra-professional networking and professional development.
  13. Provides input into budgeting and decision-making processes.
  14. Keeps abreast of developments in field of expertise basing current instructional practice on recent evidence.
  15. Communicates learning expectations.
  16. Varies teaching techniques and incorporates current technology.
  17. Structures classroom activities and assignments based on learning outcomes.
  18. Provides students with written and oral feedback.
  19. Engages in self-assessment of teaching practices and professional development needs.
  20. Faculty must keep all classes, office hours at the required amount of time set forth by the College and maintain good classroom management.
  21. Oversees the labs for courses that require lab time.
  22. Must have the ability to set up lab equipment for each class. 
  23. Engages with industry routinely to ensure program outcomes are in demand and current. 
  24. Must actively recruit students.
  25. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

  1. Thorough knowledge in the field of expertise and teaching techniques.
  2. Ability to develop daily lesson plans and design learning activities aimed at achieving student learning outcomes.
  3. Communicate learning expectations through provision of structured activities and assignments.
  4. Ability to instruct, engage students, and assess student learning.
  5. Familiarity with college resources available to provide instruction and services or assistance to student including instructional technology.
  6. Ability to provide guidance to students for academic planning.
  7. Knowledge of placement policies when interpreting placement scores and advising students.
  8. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree for the teaching of non-transferable courses (Developmental Courses) and/or Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in the subject area.
  2. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to successfully maintain a teaching load involving courses such as AC-DC Fundamentals, Wiring Fundamentals, Programmable Logic Controllers, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, and Instrumentation and Control. 
  3. Experience in the Commercial, Industrial, or Manufacturing fields.
  4. Experience in teaching or training adult populations. 
  5. The successful candidate will possess competence and experience to develop, revise, implement and assess the curriculum to ensure that students are acquiring current knowledge, including familiarity with technology used in classroom settings. 
  6. Candidates must have capability and flexibility to teach in the evening and/or online classes with labs that meet in-person during the day.
  7. A shared vision for preparing students for their professional programs, an ability and willingness to use novel teaching techniques and technology to engage today’s learner, and the ability to involve students in hands-on learning are essential.
  8. Candidates for this position must possess a thorough knowledge of the teaching field, a commitment to high academic standards, a dedication to student success, and excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. 

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the above:

  1. Knowledge of maintenance and repair associated with bearings, shafts, chains, valves, pumps, compressors, and mechanical drives
  2. Knowledge of maintenance and repair associated with centrifugal compressors, blowers, and turbines
  3. Knowledge and understanding of rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
  4. Knowledge and understanding of adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straight edges
  5. Knowledge and understanding of operating milling machines, drill presses, grinders, etc… in installation and repair machinery and equipment
  6. Knowledge and understanding of use and interpretation of schematics and blueprints related to construction and equipment
  7. Knowledge and understanding of use of industry standard cutting welding skills, use of torch, stick welding, and wire welding
  8. Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out and other OSHA safety-related curriculum
  9. Knowledge and understanding of moving machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, and rollers
  10. Knowledge and understanding of safety and housekeeping for a safe training environment
  11. Knowledge and understanding of electronics and digital devices, such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and related devices such as Allen-Bradley, instrumentation and controls, industrial motor controls, and hydraulics and pneumatics
  12. Knowledge and understanding of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
  13. Knowledge and understanding of Labvolt and Automation Studio software
  14. Experience in industrial, construction or other technical trades, such as Millwright, Industrial Maintenance Technician, Electrician, manufacturing field, Instrumentation Technician, general construction or in project management
