Job Description

The Jones College of Business Department of Accounting at Middle Tennessee State University invites applications for the Joey A. Jacobs Chair of Excellence in Accounting, one of only three Chairs of Excellence in the College. This is a non-tenurable position with open rank considered and may begin as early as January 1, 2021.

The chairholder will be a nationally recognized leader in the accounting profession and is expected to enhance the existing accounting faculty’s expertise and strengths. The MTSU Department of Accounting faculty are committed to excellence in teaching, and individually our professors and instructors are recognized leaders in their respective disciplines, with an impressive collective footprint in academic research, practitioner research, and service to the profession, the university, and the community.

The chairholder must be capable of teaching excellence at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and must demonstrate the ability to build partnerships with external constituents and foster a culture of engagement and interaction with the business and professional communities.

Specific duties will include:

  • Innovative and effective teaching in an area of expertise that contributes to the curricular objectives of the program and growth of our students;
  • Evaluating opportunities for and implementing executive education programs, seminars, and workshops that appeal to our alumni and other external constituents;
  • Fostering relationships between the Department and the profession that will attract resources and recognition in support of the Department mission; and
  • Participating collaboratively with the Department, College, and University.

MTSU is a Carnegie Doctoral/Professional University (D/PU) with approximately 22,000 students located 35 miles southeast of Nashville. The university offers, through eight colleges and 39 academic departments, baccalaureate instruction in the liberal and fine arts, the sciences, education, business, media and entertainment, and a variety of other fields. Graduate programs are offered at the master’s, specialist, and doctoral levels.

The Jones College of Business offers an undergraduate degree in accounting and a Master of Accountancy degree. The Department of Accounting holds its own accreditation from AACSB.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a closely related field along with professional experience substantial in duration and responsibility in the practice of accounting.

Required Related Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of ten (10) years professional experience with senior-level leadership and/or academic experience in accounting.

Required License/Registration/Certification

Applicants must have CPA and/or other professional certifications, such as CIA, CMA, CFE, CGMA, etc.

Salary and Benefits
