The Department of Electrical
and Computer Engineering (ECE)
at the University of
Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS)
invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. We seek
an early tenure-track career faculty member with specialty in power systems and sub-specialty in either power electronics or electric
drives, starting fall semester 2021.

The position will teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of power systems,
power electronics, and electric drives. Specific courses include ECE3910: Power Systems I, ECE4910, Power Systems II, and ECE4955/5955:
Power Electronics. The position will also introduce new courses (e.g., electric machines, power system protective relaying, utility scale
battery energy storage systems) depending on curriculum requirements.

The successful candidate will possess a solid publication
record and demonstrate potential for attracting external research funding, as well as the ability to interface their research with the
department’s existing strengths in microelectronic circuits, VLSI design, computers, communications/signal processing, and controls. The
department is interested in candidates with a strong commitment to pursuing externally funded research and teaching at both graduate and
undergraduate levels.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards
Act (FLSA).

Who we are:

The ECE Department at UCCS is relatively small in size; thus all tenure-track faculty in the department are expected
to teach undergraduate and graduate classes while simultaneously developing an individual program of research. Considerable flexibility
exists in the choice of research focus so long as areas align with Department strengths. The College of Engineering and Applied Science at UCCS offers degrees at the
bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels. The Microelectronics Research Laboratory (MRL) of the ECE Department has a well-equipped 4000 sq.
ft. class-100 clean room, with device processing and characterization facilities. The Microwave Measurements Laboratory is able to test EMI
from high-power circuits. The High-Capacity Battery Research Laboratory has facilities to test and characterize cells, modules, and battery
packs for hybrid and electric vehicles. The undergraduate communications laboratory has recently been upgraded with new 6.5 GHz FieldFox
spectrum/network analyzers and waveform generators to augment the wideband digital oscilloscopes.

What We Offer:

The 9-month salary range for this position is
$86,000 to $93,000 (USD firm), depending on qualifications.

Qualifications

Minimum
Requirements:

  1. A Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field; conferred by date of appointment
  2. Specific expertise in power systems and either power electronics or electric drives. Expertise obtained during graduate studies will
    also be considered. This expertise might be demonstrated via published papers, related employment, proposal-writing experience, or
    supervision of relevant research or industry projects, for example.
  3. Four months of teaching experience in an academic setting as a
    teaching assistant, instructor of record or the equivalent.
