Montana State University (MSU) is
seeking a vice president for information technology and chief information officer (VP/CIO) to join the team and provide leadership and
vision in the changing landscape of information technology in a higher education environment. The VP/CIO will be committed to service
excellence by creating strategic partnerships and providing collaborative information technology services for the four MSU campuses. The
VP/CIO will provide leadership for the development and implementation of innovative technology solutions and services to support the
land-grant mission, in alignment with the institutional strategic plan.

The VP/CIO provides effective leadership for all aspects of
the technological architecture, security, and integration ensuring technology investments support MSU’s strategic imperatives and
priorities. The VP/CIO engages constituents across university divisions and functions regarding IT needs and aligns the University
Information Technology’s (UIT) priorities with the University’s strategic plan.

The VP/CIO oversees centrally managed
information technology infrastructure and services, and also oversees information technology personnel across the Bozeman campus through
shared service reporting relationships. The VP/CIO also provides leadership and guidance to the affiliate campus CIOs.

The VP/CIO
coordinates these responsibilities with a variety of constituents including but not limited to: the main campus in Bozeman with its
colleges, research centers and other institutional units; its remote nursing campuses; Montana Agricultural Experiment stations; MSU
Extension; affiliated campuses in Billings, Great Falls, and Havre; other campuses of the Montana University System; the Office of the
Commissioner of Higher Education, State of Montana; federal agencies; and outside service providers associated with information technology
activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • a master’s degree in business administration, information
    management, information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related field, with a successful track record of progressively
    responsible management experience in information technology.
  • demonstrated success as a leader in a senior information or technology
    management position.
  • a significant record of progressive accomplishment as a leader of a complex information technology
    organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • a doctorate degree.
  • experience in a leadership
    position in a large research university environment.
  • experience working with IT systems across a multi-campus university.
