Position Summary: The School of Biological Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale seeks applicants for a
Researcher II position. This is a full-time, grant-funded appointment that will begin January 6, 2021 and is expected to continue for two
years, renewable with availability of funding.
Duties and Responsibilities: The selected individual will be
responsible for daily operations of the Plant of Concern – Southern Illinois program, a grant funded program dedicated to the
monitoring of rare plants in 11 southern Illinois counties. The selected individual will be responsible for identifying target plant species
and obtaining permission from land owners to conduct monitoring on their property. The selected individual will facilitate and oversee a
network of volunteer community scientists liaising with partner organizations including the Chicago Botanic Garden POC and the Cooperative
Weed Management Area. The selected individual will be responsible for learning Chicago Botanic Garden POC protocols, collecting, recording
and summarizing data program data, and keeping extensive and accurate program records.
BA/BS degree in plant biology or related field
Experience and knowledge of field botany including the identification, taxonomy, and
ecology of rare plant species
Demonstrated ability to conduct field work in extreme and remote field settings.
Qualifications: MS degree in plant biology or related field. Experience developing and overseeing volunteer community science
