Title: Assistant Instructor/Assistant Lecturer/Assistant Professor of Practice (Automotive Technology)

Position Summary: The Department of Automotive Technology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is
seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Instructor, Assistant Lecturer, or Assistant Professor of Practice position. The position
requires teaching undergraduate automotive technical and/or automotive fixed and variable operations business management courses. Position
is a term, non-tenure track appointment that begins January 1, 2021.
Duties and Responsibilities:
an approved teaching load and maintain appropriate office hours.
- Manage classrooms, laboratories, tools, equipment, and other
- Provide educational and professionally related assistance to prospective and enrolled students. Engage in
indirect instruction to support student learning and retention.
- Keep students apprised of grades as the semester progresses and
enter final grades electronically within specified deadlines.
- Participate in professional associations, service, and outreach
activities related to the discipline. Participate in program development, quality assurance and assessment duties as
- Remain abreast of recent developments and practices in the industry.
- Maintain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)
certification(s) in assigned teaching areas if required.
- Maintain training and credentials necessary for Program
- Comply with Program quality assurance and assessment requirements.
- Comply with all University and College
policies and procedures. Comply with all Departmental guidelines.
- Engage in other program/departmental assignments as determined by
the Department Chair.
Minimum Qualifications: Appointment at rank of Assistant Lecturer or Assistant Professor
of Practice requires earned Masters or Ph.D. degree, respectively, in automotive, engineering, technology, business, education, or a closely
related discipline with a minimum three (3) years of related industry training and/or experience. For appointment at rank of Assistant
Instructor, must have an earned Baccalaureate degree in automotive, engineering, technology, business, education, or related discipline with
a minimum three (3) years of related work experience and/or appropriate industry training/certifications for courses to be taught.
Preferred Qualifications: Earned Masters or Ph.D. degree in automotive, engineering, technology, business, education, or
a closely related discipline with related experience in the automotive wholesale/manufacturer or retail level.
