  • Primary teaching assignment in the Early College High
    School Program, typically teaching 5 sections of Early College High School Program classes, assigned each Fall and Spring semesters and
    available sections in the Summer semester. As needed, and depending upon professional experience and education, may be assigned to teach
    courses in the Environmental Science & Technology Workforce program, such as environmental health; environmental chemistry; wastewater
    operations; waste minimization and pollution prevention; health and safety; environmental sampling and analysis, and environmental laws and

Current Work of the Department/Discipline

The Department of Environmental Science & Technology
offers an associate of science degree in environmental studies and an associate of applied science degree in environmental science and
technology. The department also offers several certificates, including an advanced certificate for degree holders, with focus on
environmental health. By encouraging interaction among faculty, staff, and students, we provide an effective learning environment that
fosters an appreciation and understanding of the environment and the impact that humans have on natural systems. Course offerings include on
campus, online, dual enrollment (for area high school students) and early college high school. Student demand for our programs has grown
significantly over the last two years and is continuing to grow, especially in the early college high school programs we offer in
partnership with area independent school districts.

Job Summary

Responsible to prepare and deliver
Environmental Science and Technology coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a
commitment to success equity, respect for diversity, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching
field. Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepare and teach courses in the field of Environmental Science and Technology
    to a diverse and multicultural student population based on the department’s approved course learning
    outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
  • Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and departmental governance, including
    curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other
    departmental activities.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and
    departmental expectations.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in the Environmental Science and Technology program.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual
    orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected
  • Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
  • Support division and
    department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
  • Serve on collegewide and
    departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair,
    dean, and/or associate vice president, vice president, executive vice president.

Required Education

  • In accordance with Southern
    Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements

    • Master’s degree in Environmental Science,
      Environmental Studies, Geology, Geological Sciences, Wildlife Science, Wildlife Ecology, Biology, Oceanography/Marine Science, Environmental
      Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, Hydrology, Environmental or Water Resource Management, Agronomy, or Limnology;
    • Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in these disciplines

    may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline.
