The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position with a nine-month service period. We are primarily focused on hires at the Assistant Professor rank, although individuals at higher ranks with exceptional credentials may be considered. We seek faculty members who commit to excellence in graduate and undergraduate education, will develop impactful, productive and novel research programs, and will contribute to the department’s goal of eliminating systemic racism and sexism by embracing our culture of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). Candidates will be expected to complement existing research areas in the Department and across campus, and to assume a leadership position in aerospace related research.
We are the oldest Aerospace Engineering department in the country and celebrated our 100th anniversary in 2014. Our undergraduate and graduate programs have continuously been among the very best in the U.S. Our faculty research expertise covers a broad spectrum of topics including computational science, multi-physics modeling and simulation, aerostructures, smart structures and materials, flight dynamics and control, autonomous systems, avionics and software systems, multidisciplinary design optimization, propulsion, combustion, and sustainable energy, with a mix of air and space applications. More information about our department can be found at aero.engin.umich.edu. Applicants should have earned a doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of the department’s mission, including the development of a high impact externally funded research program, the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses, and the supervision of graduate students.
