Job Summary

The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, WA invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor beginning fall 2021 to direct the undergraduate Engineering Management Bachelor of Science program. The Engineering Management Program Director will be assigned to the department of their academic discipline (Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering).

The Engineering Management Program Director will have a strong personal vision for excellence in engineering management education, and an ability to communicate this vision effectively to others. Teaching interests that strengthen SEAS at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and provide opportunities for inter-disciplinary work across the University are highly desirable.

This position reports directly to the Dean of Engineering and Applied Science.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain the Engineering Management program’s ABET accreditation, promote the Engineering Management program throughout the regional business community and carry out other duties and assignments within the scope and responsibility of the position as directed by the Dean of Engineering and Applied Science.
  • Teach undergraduate course instruction in their academic discipline (Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering) (two, 3-credit, lecture courses/semester).
  • Hire adjunct faculty, provide leadership in developing courses and curricula in collaboration with other GU faculty.
  • Provide curriculum and career advising to the program’s undergraduates; perform academic citizenship and service; carry out scholarly activities to remain technically current; and establish and maintain strong industry alliances.
  • Support any strategic planning efforts and future development in the School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer, or Electrical Engineering
  • Documented evidence of teaching, research/scholarship, and service to be hired at the associate professor level
  • Demonstrated willingness to involve undergraduates in research.
  • At least 5 years of industrial experience, preferably in engineering design
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • At least 8 years of teaching experience, which may include product/process design and development, quality control, project management, and manufacturing
  • Demonstrated knowledge about the ABET EAC accreditation process
  • A record of developing and working with engineering, business, industry, and related firms

Desired Qualifications

  • CPEM, PMP
  • Demonstrated ability to write grant proposals and other publications successfully
  • Experience with government agencies and/or national laboratories, and the ability to acquire external funding
