Job Description

The Chemical and Materials Engineering Department at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) seeks to fill a Postdoctoral position. This non-tenure track full-time position is offered at one year with the possibility of renewal based on performance, and is contingent on funding.

We are looking for talented and motivated postdoctoral candidates, who are interested in protein engineering to develop designer scaffolds and smart protein assemblies, by combination of directed evolution and rational design with applications in biomedicine, bioimaging, and biomaterials.

Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in chemical engineering, bioengineering, biochemistry, or related disciplines by time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications
Prospective postdoctoral applicants with skills and interest in protein engineering and design, including molecular biology, library design, protein biochemistry and structure, protein expression and purification, enzyme kinetics, and cell culture, are highly encouraged to apply for the position. Expertise in biomaterials and cell based assays are a plus.

Compensation Grade

Department Information

Thanks to substantial growth in both student enrollment and tenure-track faculty positions, the College of Engineering is constructing a new engineering building, scheduled to open in 2020. About the Principal Investigator

Dr. Maryam Raeeszadeh-Sarmazdeh obtained her B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Sharif University of Technology, Iran and her Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 2014 under Dr. Eric Boder’s supervision. After receiving her Ph.D., she completed a two-year postdoctoral position in the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Delaware with Dr. Wilfred Chen. She then joined the Cancer Biology Department of Mayo Clinic as a senior research fellow in 2017. She recently joined the Chemical and Materials Engineering Department at the University of Nevada, Reno (https://www.unr.edu/cme) as an Assistant Professor to start her biomolecular engineering research laboratory.
