The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Senior Postdoctoral Associate.

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): 

PhD (or Foreign Equivalent) in quantitative ecology, computer science, advanced statistics, fisheries science or a related field. Experience with advanced statistics, programming in Matlab, R or other statistical languages. Experience working with ecological or oceanographic data.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Two years of experience using advanced statistics or excellence in the field as demonstrated by relevant peer-reviewed publications, or a fellowship in population dynamics, quantitative ecology, computer science, statistics or applied math. Experience working with oceanographic data, working on oceanographic vessels and developing ecological indicators. Strong written communication skills as demonstrated by prior peer-reviewed publications.

Brief Description of Duties: The postdoctoral researcher will analyze oceanographic data and develop indicators related to ocean health in the New York Bight and Northeast US. The postdoc will help plan and participate in research cruises and work with a transdisciplinary team of physical, chemical and biological oceanographers. The postdoc will prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific research conferences.

The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Analyze data and develop indicators of oceanographic conditions and ecosystem health
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals
  • Assist in the planning and participation of oceanographic cruises
  • Present at conferences, NYDEC and other management agencies
  • Write proposals for external funding
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission

Special Notes:

This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
