The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Rank is dependent on qualifications and the record of the successful candidate. A strong background in thermal-fluid sciences and an earned PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field are required. The anticipated start term is either Spring 2021 or Fall 2021. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. The successful candidate will be expected to teach thermal-fluid sciences courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, develop an externally funded research program in his/her area of expertise, participate in service-related activities, and supervise student design projects. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
The Mechanical Engineering Department takes pride in its excellent educational programs. Engineering fundamentals and design are emphasized throughout the undergraduate curriculum. The graduate programs emphasize the professional development of the student and seek to make transformative and impactful research contributions. Research areas currently being pursued by faculty members in the department include computational fluid mechanics and heat transfer, experimental and computational solid mechanics, composite materials, robotics, advanced manufacturing, and engineering education.
