About This Role:

The Northwest Research-Extension Center at Kansas State
University is looking for a Fellow (Post Doc) to work on field and laboratory research activities related to improving the efficiency of
alfalfa irrigation in the Great Plains Region with subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) with a focus on engineering aspects. This individual
will work closely with K-State irrigation scientists and with colleagues at USDA-ARS locations at Bushland, Texas and Parlier, California.
Activities will include field research examining and identifying SDI strategies to stabilize and/or improve alfalfa production while
optimizing water productivity as well as laboratory modeling. The candidate will also conduct a comprehensive literature review of alfalfa
irrigation and will prepare both lay-oriented and professional research reports.

What You’ll Need to
Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in agricultural or civil engineering
    with a focus on irrigation or crop water management or related field.
  • Practical experience in irrigation management.
  • Good
    written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience
    with subsurface drip irrigation and center pivot sprinkler irrigation systems, their operation and management.
  • Familiarity with
    crop models (e.g, DSSAT) and hydrologic modeling (e.g, Hydrus IID) and irrigation uniformity calculations.

Anticipated Hiring Salary
Range:

$60,000-$65,000
