Assistant Professor Environmental Science and Policy


The Environmental Science and Policy Program at Smith College invites applications for a
tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2021. We seek a candidate in Human Geography; the Ph.D. can be in geography or a related
interdisciplinary environmental field. The successful candidate will prioritize issues of justice, equity, and inclusion in the study of
human-environment interactions. Strong candidates will possess spatial analysis skills and combine strengths in the natural and social
sciences. Areas of interest could include, but are not limited to, public health; cities and urban development; and/or the food-water-energy

The teaching load is two courses per semester, with additional responsibilities for major and honors advising. Teaching
responsibilities include rotation in our program’s environmental integration core courses, an intermediate (200-level) course that
incorporates spatial analysis skills, and at least one upper-level course per year in the candidate’s area of expertise. The
successful candidate should have an active research program that engages undergraduate students. Prior teaching experience is preferred.
